Jean C. Meier, 79, resident of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
She was born Nov. 3, 1929, in Detroit Lakes, to Thurman and Hulda (Hanson) Wetteland. She attended school in Audubon, graduating in 1948. Following high school, she attended Concordia College in Moorhead, earning a bachelor's degree in English and history. While attending Concordia, she met Herman Meier and they were married Aug. 26, 1950. They resided in Felton, where she taught English for three years. They later moved to Bagley, Hutchinson and Moorhead before returning to Detroit Lakes.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes with the Rev. Dan Babine officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the church one hour prior to services on Thursday. Interment will be held at First Lutheran Cemetery, rural Audubon, Minn. The David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes (www.daviddonehower.com) is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Herman, two sons, Richard (Patrice) of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Philip (Christie) of Wadena; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister; Shirley Steinhaus; a brother, Thurman (Vaida) Wetteland; and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Liz Utke; and two brothers-in-law, Loren Steinhaus and John Utke.
