Jean A. Fischer, 80, passed away Jan. 8, 2010, at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena.
She was born Aug. 9, 1929, to William and Ida (Riebe) Umland in Bartlett Township, rural Bertha. Jean was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bartlett Township on Sept. 1, 1929 and later confirmed there on May 9, 1943. She attended Verndale High School, graduating with the class of 1948. It was in the same church that Jean wed Robert N. Fischer on May 20, 1955. She assisted him with the farming and was a dedicated homemaker. She belonged to the Ladies' Aide at Bartlett and the Senior Center in Verndale. Her days were busy with sewing, gardening, lawn care, flowers, crocheting, embroidery and playing board games with her family.
Funeral services were set for at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bartlett Township, with the Rev. Al Jeske officiating. Pallbearers are Darrell Fischer, Wayne Braith, Clarence Horsager, Chuck Neal, Jim Thompson, and LeRoy Bramer. Interment was in Greenlawn Cemetery in Verndale. Arrangements were with the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena and Verndale (www.johnsonmemorialhome.com).
Survivors include her daughters, Annette (William) Fritz of Brooklyn Park, and Renee (Myron) Rieker of Herreid, S.D.; and her grandson, Collin.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on March 3, 2002; her parents, William and Ida; her twin brother, Eugene; and an infant brother.
