Jazz pianist coming to Wadena
Paul Asaro is known as one of the finest of a select group of pianists who perform the demanding, two-handed piano styles, including the Stride piano of Fats Waller, the New Orleans styles of Jelly Roll Morton, the ragtime of Scott Joplin and Eubie Blake, plus stomps, boogie-woogie and swing.
Asaro will be on stage in Wadena at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 at Memorial Auditorium, as part of the 2008-09 concert series sponsored by the Wadena Area Concert Association.
Asaro performs at jazz and ragtime festivals, clubs and theaters worldwide, and has appeared onstage with musical legends and luminaries such as Leon Redbone, Steve Allen, Marian McPartland, Orange Kellin and Duke Heitger. He was featured as the professor in the award-winning Broadway production and national tour of "Jelly Roll! The Music and the Man," performing alongside the show's creator and star, Vernel Bagneris.
At the Wadena show, the audience will hear familiar favorites such as "Ain't Misbehavin'," "This Is So Nice It Must Be Illegal," "Honeysuckly Rose," "Tiger Ring," "Original Jelly Roll Blues" and "Maple Leaf Rag."
Everyone must be a member of the Wadena Area Concert Association to attend this concert. Those who are not members can become one by calling Bonnie at (218) 631-4178.
