Agricultural producers using irrigation are invited to attend the Irrigation Clinic being held at the New York Mills City Hall building on Feb. 23. This event is sponsored by the East Otter Tail Soil and Water Conservation District (EOT SWCD) and will update agricultural irrigators on new and current techniques for determining soil moisture in irrigated fields. There will be a hands-on demonstration on determining soil moisture by feel and appearance. Jerry Wright, Extension engineer who recently retired from the University of Minnesota, will be making a presentation on irrigation management considerations for sandy soils in Minnesota. Bruce Becker, NRCS district conservationist, will be presenting on monitoring your soil health for long term productivity. The new adaptive nitrogen management program being offered in the area in 2011 will also be introduced at the clinic.
The clinic will start at 9:30 a.m. with registration and run to about 2:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Producers interested in attending or those that would like more information about the Irrigation Clinic should contact Arnie Rethemeier at the EOT SWCD by calling (218) 346-4260, ext 3.
