Irene Agnes Asmund, 70, passed away March 25, 2009, at the Elders' Home in New York Mills.
She was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Perham to Frank and Anna (Coleman) Honer. She grew up in Dent and graduated from the Perham High School with the class of 1957. On June 22, 1957, she married Wallace "Wally" Asmund at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills. Their marriage was blessed with three children: John, Jerry and Jay. She was employed as a nursing assistant her entire life. She enjoyed working at St. James Hospital in Perham, St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Wesley Hospital in Wadena, the Elders' Home in New York Mills, Fargo Nursing Home and her last 12 years before retirement at the Perham Memorial Home. She enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and loved the outdoors.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 3 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Perham with the Rev. Carl Noble officiating. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills. Survivors include her sons, John (Cheryl) Asmund of Fargo and Jerry Asmund of New York Mills; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Thornberg of Hankinson, N.D., Anna (Charles) Schmidt of Hawley, Agnes Honer of Salem, Ore., Louise (Larry) Kempenich of Perham, Ludwina (Bob) Riepe of Detroit Lakes; brothers, Lawrence (Pearl) Honer of Breckenridge, Edward Honer of Perham, Alfred (Marilyn) Honer of Detroit Lakes, and James Honer of Perham; many other relatives; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jay Asmund; siblings, Rose Ziolowski, Frank Honer, Marie Fairbanks, Frances Honer, Katherine Christianson, Joseph Honer and Luella Staber.
