Interesting programs coming to the library
Wadena Minnesota 314 S. Jefferson 56482

Thanks to all of you who helped with the huge success of the Friends of the Library book sale. Their fall sale brought in more than $800, I'm told, which helps our local library provide many extras not possible in the regular budget. Money the Friends group has raised over the years has gone to provide things such as programming, book discussion group, author talks, computers as well as all the best seller materials.

The Friends of the Library is a non-profit funding source for our library. It raises money to supplement the materials and programming budget we have seen dwindle over the years. If you find you have some time on your hands and would like to be a part of this wonderful group contact the library and we can get you in touch with one of its officers.

The library will really be busy this fall with a lot of programs to take in. We will be welcoming Minnesota author Lorna Landvik here for a reading and a visit as the kick-off for our Kitchi Reads -- Kitchi Writes program. We do not as of right now have a confirmed date for her visit but we are shooting for mid-November.

We will also be welcoming Alison Edgerton as Laura Ingalls Wilder to Wadena to partake of the program: Where Literature and History Meet. Tentative dates for this program will be Nov. 9 and 18 at Memorial Auditorium. Because of the huge response of students wanting to attend this program, we simply had to offer it more than once. "Laura" will be sharing pictures and talking about her life as well as answering any questions the audience may have. The program is a lot of fun with a lot of information to go along with it.

The library will kick off the new year with a concert by Neal Hagberg. You may be familiar with singer/songwriter Neal Hagberg as half of the popular duo Neal and Leandra, heard often on Minnesota Public Radio. Hagberg recently released a solo CD titled, "It's Not as Simple as It Seems," It is unlike anything you've ever heard from him. Instead of reducing issues to sound bites, the 14 songs on this CD put a human face on the suffering we experience and, subsequently, cause in the world. No topic is off limits -- war, homophobia, abortion, religious fundamentalism, or even forgiveness. We are happy and honored to be having him.

These are but a few of the programs that will be provided for you at the Wadena City Library throughout the fall, winter and spring months. These wonderful opportunities are made possible by the state of Minnesota Legacy Amendment. I encourage you to keep your eyes and ears open for upcoming events. You can always check out the display areas in the library when you come in to check out your books to find out about up and coming events.

For now stay dry and stay warm, and cuddle up with a good book. See you at the library!
