Huskies stumble against Braves in Class C state tourney
Kyle Dykhoff and Gunner Johnson led the way last Friday as the Bluffton Braves upset the Hutchinson Huskies 5-3 in the first round of the Class C state baseball tournament.
Dykhoff doubled twice, scored once and drove in a run to highlight a 13-hit barrage by Bluffton. Cody Geiser, Marc Sweere and Nic Goeden combined for six hits, four runs and one RBI.
Johnson, a draftee from Nimrod, surrendered just five hits and two walks while fanning 10 in a complete game performance. Johnson pitched a shutout for the first six innings.
The victory propelled the Braves into second round play against Lake Henry. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Delano.
Hutchinson was paced at the plate by Justin Juergensen who went 2-for-4.
Kyle Messner and Adam Padrnos shared pitching duties for Hutchinson. Messner went the first six frames. Padrnos gave up just one hit in two innings of relief work.
The Huskies entered the state tournament with a 20-12 record. The Braves were 9-11 heading into state.
