Hoffman earns first place ranking in Region II Beef Proficiency
Wadena-Deer Creek FFA member Dane Hoffman received a first-place ranking in FFA Region II Beef Proficiency.
FFA Region II includes 19 FFA chapters from the northeast third of Minnesota. FFA members' proficiency applications were judged by Region II FFA advisors and then the FFA members were interviewed personally on their applications.
Hoffman's proficiency was based on his current herd of 12 registered South Devon beef cows. His herd began with seed stock purchased through the North American South Devon Association. Goals for his herd include using rations that enhance the genetic potential of his animals and selecting sires to breed with his females that produce South Devon animals with breed characteristics of carcass quality, feed efficiency and growth. His third goal included developing sound heifers that are superior physically, as well as genetically.
Hoffman's educational goals include earning a bachelor's degree in food science from North Dakota State University. His proficiency application will be forwarded to the Minnesota State FFA Association to be judged in state competition.
