Hoffman, Craig, Cantrell lead track teams in opener

Wadena-Deer Creek senior Dane Hoffman claimed top honors in the discus Tuesday at the Little Amik I track and field indoor meet.

Hoffman tossed the discus 124-10 and added some luster to his day by putting the shot 42-8.5 for a fourth-place finish. Teammate Jordan Jacobson was fourth in the discus with a 109-11.5.

Neil Janson and Isaiah Toedter were also double placers for the Wolverines. Janson ran seventh in the 1,600 with a 5:12.55 and took eighth in the 800 with a 2:22.25. Toedter reached the finals of the big 55 dash event and placed 12th with a 7.42. Toedter also placed 11th in the 55 hurdles with a time of 11.36.

The WDC boys placed ninth overall with 23 points.

Rachel Craig and Charley Cantrell sparked a fifth place, 53-point effort by the Wadena-Deer Creek girls' team.

Craig showed her great versatility by taking second in the discus with a 34-4, second in the shot put with an 83-7, fourth in the 55 hurdles with a 10.52 and fifth in the high jump with a 4-8. Cantrell was impressive in the 400 and 800 recording a runner-up time of 1:06.68 in the 400 and a third place time of 2:34.71 in the 800.

Hannah Toedter was a double finisher in the individual events taking fourth in the 1,600 with a 5:48.87 and fifth in the 800 with a 2:38.24.

Cantrell and Toedter joined Lindsey Eliason and Sonja Kern in running a fourth-place time of 4:38.23 in the 4x400.
