Highway 71 construction continues; paving expected to be complete by Friday
Construction continues through Park Rapids on the Highway 71 project from Park Rapids to Menahga.
"The crews are currently placing bituminous shoulders on the rural section and milling the parking lanes in Park Rapids," said Larry Randall, project supervisor. "On Thursday they will be paving the shoulders, parking lanes in Park Rapids and placing aggregate shoulders on the rural section. They expect to have all paving completed by Friday."
Motorists are cautioned to be alert to workers, heavy equipment and truck traffic in the project area. Flagging operations, along with a pilot car will assist travelers through the work zone.
Next week, Randall said crews will apply permanent striping, shoulder rumble strips and turf establishment.
"The project should be substantially complete by the end of next week, weather permitting," Randall said.
The $6.8 million project completion date was originally set for Sept. 19.
