High-flying art at Open Book

Anne Sawyer-Aitch, the September artist-in-residence at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center, watched the hanging of her bird sculptures at An Open Book on Sunday, Oct. 24. Jamie Houts, the bookstore's "artist-in-residence," supervised while the actual work of getting the birds airborne was accomplished by "the guys": Jemiah Aitch and Chris Houts. John Kempf, SaraBeth Kawlewski, Skylar, Cheyenne and Sage Houts all provided ground support. The birds arrived in Wadena from their previous home in St. Paul. The idea of hosting the birds came up when Anne stopped in at An Open Book and realized that the bookstore's high ceilings and interior design motif were a perfect match for her bird sculptures.
