Hide & Fur overrun with scrap traders
Tom Paper has seen a strong scrap metal market react positively to an early spring.
The Wadena Hide & Fur owner has seen his scrap metal business go from good to hectic in recent days. Some types of high grade scrap metal have been selling for $180 a ton.
The scrap metal business saw $300 a ton prices in 2008 before the recession turned 2009 into a poor year for selling scrap.
What a more bullish market has meant for Tom Paper and his brother, Rich, is a lot of customers at their U.S. Highway 10 business on the northwest side of Wadena. Truck and trailer loads of scrap have been lining up on the side of the highway as they wait to bring in a variety of metals, many which come off area farms.
"This is exceptional,"
