Herbert Carl Borchers was born on January 2, 1933 to Clark and Minnie (Julfs) Borchers in Wadena, MN. He graduated from Deer Creek High School in 1951.

Herb was united in marriage with Lorna June Fiedler on May 16, 1954 at Corliss Township, rural Perham. He began farming in 1957 and operated his farm until retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Deer Creek Lions Club and served on the Oak Valley Town Board for 34 years.

Herb enjoyed the outdoors and found fulfillment in farming the land and raising cattle. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, pitching horseshoes, playing cards and trips to the casino. He enjoyed spending time with family and going out to "get a sandwich." He also looked forward to meeting friends at the Old Homestead Caf to socialize and share stories. He loved to travel in his earlier years and enjoyed a few bus trips as well. He followed the Twins, Vikings and Gophers and was an avid "armchair coach." He never missed going to watch the grandkids in any sporting event or program.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents Clark and Minnie Borchers.

He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Lorna; daughters Sherye Clancy of Perham, Vicki (Scott) Jahnke of Wadena, and Bonnie (Harlan) Schultz of New York Mills; 5 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and brother Dale (Myra) Borchers of Princeton.
