Hensch has accepted an administrative position in the New York Mills School District as elementary dean of students and activities director.

"It's a career move more than anything else," Hensch said. The dean of students position is a new one at New York Mills. It was created after elementary principal Greg Esala went back to teaching. The activities director position in Mills has been held by Jon Kostaska for the past year.

Hensch was named Coach of the Year in the Mid-State Conference for 2008-09 after leading the Wolverines to their third straight winning season. He has been the junior varsity softball coach for the past five years.

"The students were great," Hensch said. "The basketball and softball programs are doing great so those will be hard to leave."

Hensch has also been in charge of the Wadena-Deer Creek yearbook.

"He's a tough one for us to lose," WDC secondary principal Tyler Church said. "He's a quality teacher and a quality coach. He's got a great connection with the kids."

Hensch, 34, has been in education for 11 years. He came to Wadena-Deer Creek after a three-year stint in South Dakota.

The Hensch family will be moving to the New York Mills School District.
