Henning man charged with snowmobile theft
Bond was set at $25,000 for a Henning man charged with stealing a snowmobile from a business in Wadena.
According to court records, Mitchell Peterson, 19, took a brand new snowmobile valued at $9,945 out of a crate at a Wadena dealer and strapped it to the roof of his girlfriend's car using ratchet straps.
Police were alerted that Peterson may have the missing snowmobile and they investigated at the Ottertail Trailer Park. As police were there, they saw Peterson drive up on the suspect sled, and motioned for him to stop. When he didn't, an officer reached out and grabbed the snowmobile to stop it. The VIN allegedly matched the one stolen, and Peterson was arrested.
He was charged Jan. 6 with theft of a motor vehicle, a felony. An initial appearance in Wadena County District Court was scheduled for Jan. 18.
