Graveside services for Helena Kennedy, age 81 of Henderson, Nev., and formerly of Wadena, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2013, with Rob Oyster presiding at the Wadena Cemetery in Wadena. Friends may gather at the graveside 30 minutes prior to services. Helena passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, in Las Vegas, Nev.
Helena Mildred Neal was born on October 5, 1931, to Russell Charles and Helena (Boelts) Neal in Woden, Ia. Helena attended a one-room school house and lived in the Wadena area into her early teenage years. Following her high school education she entered the United States Air Force in 1949 until her honorable discharge in 1951. Helena moved to San Diego, Ca. where she resided for over 40 years. She was employed by the federal government as a computer operator and a budget analyst until her retirement in 1990. She returned to Wadena in 1996, until her health required her to move near family in Nevada by 2004. In her free time she was an avid doll collector.
Helena was preceded in death by her parents Russell and Helena; brother Calvin Neal; and sisters Evelyn May Tidy, Vera Fosdyke and Norita Neal. She is survived by her son Ric (Syd) Kennedy of Henderson, Nev.; two grandchildren; and sister Gertrude Jones of Austin, Texas.
