Helen Florence Walker, 88, a resident of the Harmony House in Motley and formerly of Hewitt, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Lakewood Health System in Staples.
Helen was born April 8, 1921 to John and Grace (Harris) Wahner at their home in Stowe Prairie Township. She attended country school. She was united in marriage with Glenn Dale Walker on Sept. 12, 1940 at Hewitt.
Helen was a life long resident of the area. She was a farm wife for 38 years then moved into the Bertha Manor and became the caretaker for the next 25 years. She was a member of the Hewitt Senior Citizens, Homemakers and RSVP Club. She enjoyed working on crafts, especially rug making, embroidery and quilting.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 29, at the United Methodist Church in Hewitt with the Rev. Kathy Schuler presiding. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren. Pallbearers were members of the Hewitt Lions Club. Interment was in the Oak Valley Cemetery in Oak Valley Township. Survivors include her sons, John (Becky) of Baxter, and Jim (Kathy) of Hewitt; grandchildren, Sean (Traci) of St. Paul, Bryan (Chrissy) of Apple Valley, Kristin (Eric) Nugent of Boston, Chris of Kavai, Hawaii, Sarah (Billy) of Duluth, and Andy of Superior, Wis.; and great-grandchildren, Kiah, Jaxson, Cameron, William, Chayse, Emily, Ava and Chessa.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, on Oct. 18, 1978; parents, John and Grace Wahner; and brother, Harold (Dutch) Wahner.
