Half hour chase leads to burglary arrest
Wadena Minnesota 314 S. Jefferson 56482

A high speed chase that spanned from Wadena to Verndale led to the arrest of a man wanted for burglary out of Crow Wing County.

On April 4 at approximately 9 p.m., Officer Brandon Pearson was advised by dispatch that Brent Robert Johnson was headed to a gas station driving a van. Johnson had an active warrant for his arrest for second degree burglary, according to court documents.

Johnson could not be located at the time, so contact was made with the suspect's girlfriend, who confirmed he was within the vicinity of their residence.

At approximately 10:15 p.m., Officer Pearson heard radio traffic that a chase had ensued with State Trooper Nathan Erickson heading at least five other squad cars in pursuit of Johnson, according to court records. The chase led east bound on Highway 10 at speeds of 90-95 miles per hour, with Johnson being redirected by Pearson who had intercepted the vehicle just outside of Verndale city limits. Johnson was forced to turn north where the chase continued on rural roads with speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, said court documents.

The pursuit ended when Johnson again reached U.S. Highway 10 from County Road 23 and proceeded to slow his vehicle and pull off to the side of the road just east of Verndale. He was apprehended by Sheriff Michael Carr.

The chase lasted 25-30 miles and took approximately 24 minutes, according to court documents. Johnson was arrested and taken to Wadena County jail where he made an attempt on his life. He was transported to a Grace Unit in Brainerd where he was receiving treatment, after which he would be subject to arrest.
