Gwen Ford

She was born June 18, 1913, to Charles Herman and Ethel Mae (Rakerd) Hoffmeister in Jackson County, near Brewster, Minn. She graduated as class valedictorian from Park Rapids High in 1931. She attended nurses training at Wesley Hospital in Wadena, graduating as valedictorian with the nursing class of 1934. She worked as a registered nurse until her retirement in 1975. She married Keith Wesley Ford on Nov. 16, 1935, and they remained married until death in March 1981. She was active in her church, teaching Sunday School and leading youth groups. She and Keith were on the church board and served in the Men's Club and Ladies Society, along with being 4-H leaders. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, reading, and working crossword puzzles.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 8, in the Central Methodist Church in rural Verndale with the Rev. Chuck Horsager officiating. Interment was in the Wadena Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dwain Ford, Leon Dahlvang, Bryan Dahlvang, Bryan Eggers, Bryce Eggers, Joe Ford and Tony Lansing. Arrangements were with the Johnson Memorial Home in Verndale (

Survivors include her sons, Keith (Carol) Ford of Staples, and Bruce (Marlys) Ford of Cushing; daughter, Carol (LeRoy) Dahlvang of Aldrich; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Verjorie Hoffmeister-Seely of Escondido, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith; her parents, Charles and Ethel; and an infant brother.
