Growing Through Grief kids grief support group offers hope and help
A balloon release with messages written to loved ones, closed the April 22 Growing Through Grief support group -- a two evening program which left kids and adults with a feeling of hope, and with a sense that they are not alone in their grief journey. Tri-County Hospice in conjunction with Lakeland Hospice and Home Care of Fergus Falls provided a two part program for youth, their parents and grandparents in our region who have experienced the death of someone they love.
After a supper provided by Tri-County Hospital, kids and adults divided into small groups led by the bereavement facilitators. Through activities of sharing and expressive arts, youth and adults were able to feel the safety of expressing their grief in a caring, accepting atmosphere.
Tri-County Hospice and Lakeland Hospice and Home Care will begin a kids grief support group which will meet once a month for an hour after school. This group will begin Tuesday, May 18 and meetings will be from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the Tri-County Hospital conference room, in the lower level of the hospital. Attendance for this group is open to any child in the community ages 7 to 16 who has lost a family member or friend to death, regardless if they received Hospice care or not. Sessions will begin in May and continue through August. There is no fee to attend the group, but registration is required by contacting either Brenda Packer at Tri-County Hospice (218) 631-7480 or Bonnie Wallin at Lakeland Hospice and Home Care at (888) 820-7885.
