The funeral service for Gordon Denny of Verndale was held 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bartlett Township, with Pastor Al Jeske presiding. At the age of 84, Gordon passed away on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at St. Cloud Hospital.
Gordon Eugene Denny was born on Feb. 26, 1928, to Frank and Hazel (Kopp) Denny in Blue Grass, Minn. He was united in marriage with Phyllis "Bonnie" Evans on April 17, 1949, in Deer Creek. They made their home in the Verndale area, where Gordon made his livelihood in farming. He loved to use his time horseback riding, farming, hunting, going to the Verndale auctions and especially spending time with brothers, sisters, friends and family.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Hazel Denny; step-mother, Ruby; son, Johnny Denny; brothers, Mel, Lyle and Donald Denny; son-in-law, Bruce Zutter; and granddaughter, Natasha Zutter. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughters, RoxAnne Zutter of Hewitt, Gail (Mike) Kenney of Wadena, Kathy Stansbury of Grand Rapids and Cindy (Rob) Havnes of Wadena; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Pete of Sebeka, Dale of Hewitt, Jim and Jerry of Wadena and Frankie of Brainerd; sisters, Donna Johnson of Brainerd, Coy Heltemes of Washington, Carol Lenk of Staples and Peggy DuMont of New York Mills; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers were Tyler Malone, Ben Rudrud, Derek Boyd, Calvin Horan, Marshall Zutter and Jason Kenney.
Burial was in Hewitt Cemetery.
Arrangements were with the Schuller Family Funeral Homes' Domian-Anderson Chapel in Bertha.
