Gordon Beckman, 80, of Bertha, passed away on Dec. 4 at the St. Cloud Hospital. A small private service will be held for the family.
Gordon was born on the family farm Aug.5, 1933, in Wolford, ND, to Carl & Gladys (Lang) Beckman. He grew up on the farm attending country school thru the eighth grade. Gordon worked on local farms until he was drafted to the US Army in February 1955. He was honorably discharged in February 1957. He married Carol Plautz in Rugby, ND, on Dec. 24, 1958. Gordon owned and operated Beckman Brothers Texaco in Wadena for two years. In 1962 he went to work for Goetz Everson Auto Sales in Wadena; he worked there until his retirement in 1973.
Gordon had many hobbies, especially gardening and fixing cars; in later years he enjoyed watching WWE wrestling. He was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Gordon is preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Melvin, Herman, Hester and Margaret.
Gordon is survived by his wife Carol of 54 years, children: Doris (Randy) Baron of Long Prairie, Vicki Peterson of Glenwood, Joyce Beckman of Glenwood; siblings, Henry Beckman, Butte, Mont., Helen Hammond, Casper, Wyo., Calvin Beckman, Butte, Mont., Roy Beckman, Butte, Mont., Mabel Gulsvig, Wadena, Esther Baron of Elk River and Darrel (Regina) Beckman, Andover; grandchildren Janet Kothman, Donald Baron, Steve Baron, Ryan Baron, Amanda Grove, Dylan Peterson and Brienna Beckman and three great-grandchildren, Noah, Samantha and Hannah.
