Glenz looking for more consistency from Verndale volleyball squad
Shelley Glenz will have the best -- and sometimes the hottest -- seat on the court this fall as she takes over the Verndale volleyball program.
Glenz moves into the high school ranks after several seasons of Junior Olympic volleyball.
The Pirates are coming off a 9-15-2 season so changes are in order.
"I want us to really concentrate on consistent passing and serving," Glenz said.
The Pirates have plenty of senior and junior talent on the roster. Outside hitter Trista Finck and setter Brittany Kern will be key seniors in the lineup.
"Trista is a real good outside hitter and Brittany is a strong leader on the court," Glenz said.
The rest of the senior group includes outside hitter/setter Crystal Haskin, outside hitter/utility Heather Hejhal, middle hitter Jamie Kern and utility player Misty Uselman.
The club is well stocked with juniors including outside hitters Amanda Dailey and Ashley Richter, outside hitter/setters Jenny Hackler, Jenny Swenson and Faith Kern, middle hitter/setter Elizabeth Johnson and utility/outside hitter Jessica Sibert.
Sophomores who could make an impact include setter/utility Codi Weeks, middle/outside hitter Kayla Graba, middle hitter/setter Jordanna Schluttner and middle hitter/utility Amber Wendt.
Glenz has her standouts but she has also seen good balance on this year's Verndale squad.
"Our leaders seem to really support the rest of them," Glenz said.
Glenz will be assisted by Sam Martin, a former Hawley standout who has coaching experience on the college level.
Glenz gives Bertha-Hewitt the nod in the Park Region Conference.
