General surgeon begins practicing at Lakewood Health System
As of early September, Lakewood Health System in Staples announces increased general surgery access. Dr. Jay Lenz, St. Luke's Pavilion Surgical Associates, Duluth, has begun providing surgical services monthly at Lakewood Health System.
Lenz was named section chief of General Surgery at St. Luke's this year. Since 1996, his practice has been dedicated to the Duluth area; both practicing as a general surgeon and teaching as an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota for third- and fourth-year medical students.
Lenz is a highly praised professor and has earned prestigious awards such as the Alpha Omega Alpha Volunteer Teacher of the year and Lake Superior Medical Society Teacher of the Year in 2008.
Prior to his practice in Duluth, Lenz served in the Navy as an active duty surgeon in Jacksonville, Fla. For a year, Lenz was a ship surgeon on the USS Saratoga. His medical degree was earned at the University of Minnesota in 1986. He completed his residency and internship at the University of North Dakota Affiliated Hospitals Program in Grand Forks, N.D. Lenz is a board certified general surgeon in the state of Minnesota.
