Tri-County Health Care (TCHC) will host free vein ablation screening clinics at all of its five clinic locations.

An estimated 25 million people in the United States have varicose veins. A leading cause of the varicose veins is venous reflux disease caused by incompetent or "leaky" valves in the great saphenous vein running from ankle to groin in each leg. In addition to varicose veins, other symptoms may include leg pain, fatigue, swelling and skin ulceration. This condition can be progressive if left untreated and symptoms may worsen with time.

• It is estimated that 72 percent of American women and 42 percent of American men will experience varicose veins by the time they are in their 60s.

• Common risk factors for varicose veins and venous reflux include multiple pregnancies, family history, obesity and standing professions.

Tri-County Health Care is hosting this free screening event in order to educate the community about venous disease, risk factors, prevention and treatment options. Varicose veins frequently force people to dramatically change their lifestyles, especially when they have standing professions and can no longer tolerate being on their feet.

Free Varicose Vein Screening Events will be held at the following locations:

• Tuesday, March 13, Bertha Medical Clinic and Henning Medical Clinic

• Wednesday, March 14, Wadena Medical Center

• Tuesday, March 20, Wadena Medical Center

• Tuesday, April 3, Wadena Medical Center

• Wednesday, April 4, Wadena Medical Center

• Thursday, April 12, Ottertail Area Medical Clinic and Sebeka Medical Clinic

Exams will be provided from 4:30-6 p.m. Registration is required. To register for one of the upcoming clinics, call Holly at (218) 632-8777.
