Fishing tournament interrupted by strong storm on Otter Tail
Rescue crews were called out Saturday morning when a powerful storm wreaked havoc on a fishing tournament on Otter Tail Lake.
At 9:30 a.m., a 911 caller alerted the Otter Tail County sheriff's department that some boaters may be in trouble as a storm rolled in, causing dangerous waves. Three boats were observed by law enforcement on the lake, trying to get to safety. One of the boats was overcome by waves and a search ensued for the occupants, the sheriff's office said.
The occupants of that boat were later found unharmed and all other fishermen were accounted for on shore.
The sheriff's department was assisted by the Otter Tail County Water Patrol, Minnesota DNR, Minnesota State Patrol, Ottertail City Rescue and Perham Ambulance.
