Firearms safety course to be offered in Deer Creek
The Minnesota Firearms Safety Course will be held at the Deer Creek Community Center beginning April 4 from 7-9 p.m.
Students who wish to enroll must be 11 years old and reach the age of 12 years by Nov. 6, 2011. There is no maximum age, although the course is designed for youths up to the age of 16.
Classes will be Mondays April 4, 11, 18, 25 and May 2 and will cover safe gun handling, gun safety in the home, care and storage of firearms, marksmanship and hunter responsibility. The course fee of $7.50 will cover the cost of materials. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a certificate and an arm patch.
Minnesota law specifies that all person born after Dec. 31, 1979 and all hunters 12 to 15 years old applying for a hunting license must show proof of successfully completing a Firearms Safety Course in Minnesota or in a state or province recognized by the State of Minnesota under a reciprocity agreement.
