Firearm classes begin Monday in Deer Creek
A Minnesota Firearms Safety Course for youth in the Deer Creek area will begin Monday at the Deer Creek Community Center.
Certified instructors Jim Seelhammer and Lance Wohlwend will hold classes April 5, 12, 19, 26 and May 3. Classes will run from 7-9 p.m. Classes are free but there is a charge for the certification and arm patch.
Students who register must be at least 12 years old by Nov. 1, 2010. There is no maximum age but the class is designed for 12- to 16-year-olds. Youth from 12-16 who are certified through the course are permitted to hunt small game and eligible to purchase a big game license. After reaching the age of 14, certified youth are permitted to hunt without a parent or guardian.
