Fire destroyed a home in Rockwood Township in Wadena County Monday, according to the Wadena County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's deputies joined the Sebeka Fire Department on the scene Monday afternoon at the Jeff and Ellen Sams residence, along 151st Avenue in Wadena County. Though Sebeka firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and the exterior of the house didn't look too badly burned, the sheriff's office said the damage to the interior of the home made it a total loss.

Sheriff Michael Carr said the fire had been going for some time before a passerby noticed smoke coming out and called emergency responders.

Carr said no one was home at the time of the fire. Foul play was not suspected, he said.

The Wadena Fire Department provided mutual aid and the Minnesota DNR also assisted at the scene, Carr said.
