The filing period for four elected Wadena city positions opened on Tuesday and runs through August 12.
The mayor (a two-year term) and three council member positions - two four-year terms and one two-year term - will be up for election on Nov. 4.
To get on the ballot, candidates need to fill out a form at city hall and pay a $2 filing fee. They must be at least 18 years old and residents of the city of Wadena.
For residents looking to fill a temporary council vacancy, Friday is the deadline to submit a letter of interest to City Administrator Brad Swenson. The opening was created when Councilman Brian Hillesland resigned, effective July 15.
The city council plans to interview candidates and, by law, must appoint someone by Sept. 15. The chosen candidate will serve until the winner of the special election, who will serve the remaining two years of Hillesland's term, takes office at the beginning of 2015.
