Twenty-one members of Wadena-Deer Creek Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) competed - and advanced - at the Region FCCLA competition Feb. 25 in Barnesville.

Everyone did very well and they all are going to state. They each had a STAR event, which is similar to a research paper and a display board, posters, manual, or PowerPoint. Some STAR events can be five minutes of speech while others can be 30 minutes. Participants have a set time on the judge's sheet.

Yalonda Nelson and Adrianna Buettner received gold at regions with a score of 100 out of 100. This is their second year receiving a perfect score. Their STAR event was on teen pregnancy (pictured). Several first-year members, who competed included a band comprised of Joey Pate, Drew Larson, Mike Paavola and Josh Lund competed in the junior high talent portion. They did very well. When they found out they were going to state, they jumped for joy.
