Farm to school

The State Department is introducing a new program into Wadena-Deer Creek public schools this year called Farm to School where local produce and products are incorporated into the school lunches. Last week, Greg and Joan Goeden, who have a farm just outside of Wadena, trucked in sweet corn for the WDC Elementary students to enjoy on Friday, Sept. 11. Students participated in shucking the corn the previous day so that they get a "taste" of the product as it is introduced into our cafeteria. The Farm to School program is coordinated by Food Service Director Sandie Rentz.
