Erma Virginia Grewe, 82, of Eagle Bend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at the Touch of Home care home in Eagle Bend.
She was born July 7, 1926, to William and Louise (Rudloff) Mottaz at their home in Stowe Prairie Township, Todd County. She graduated from high school and on Nov. 24, 1945, she married Delbert Arnold Grewe at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wadena. Together they operated their farm and raised their children just outside Bertha.
She was active in her church and community as a cook and as a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and the Neighborhood Homemakers Club. After Delbert passed away on Oct. 24, 1976, she cooked at school for several years and at Kapps Café for their smorgasbords. She enjoyed riding with Cindy Goepferd and Mary Robben to Bertha-Hewitt High School sporting events. The teams looked forward to her fresh baked cookies after the games. She also enjoyed quilting with the church ladies, gardening and watching the Minnesota Twins.
In June 2008, she moved into Touch of Home and the lives of Pam and Carolyn in Eagle Bend where she received excellent loving care until her passing.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 24, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bertha with the Rev. Blake Rickbeil presiding. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters Illa Roth, Mata Packard, Tabitha Herbranson, Marie Grewe and Daisy Packard. Pallbearers were grandsons Russ Packard, Neil Elgin, Todd Grewe, Aaron Elgin, Jacob Elgin, Zane Packard, Nickolas Grewe and Zachary Grewe. Interment is in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Bartlett Township. Domian-Anderson Funeral Home (www.domian-anderson.com) is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her sons, Ordell (Deb) of Morris and Lance (Laura) of Hewitt; daughters, Janelle (Walter) Packard of Bertha and Jolayne (Lloyd) Elgin of Lake City, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; six grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Howard (MaryAnn) Hegarty of Arizona and Ralph Knudson of Wadena; and sisters-in-law Janet (Dave) Finley of Wadena, Iris (Ray) Erickson of Wadena, and Adela Haurik of New York.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert; parents, William and Louise; brother, Ray Mottaz; and sister, Velva McAllister.
