Eric Spencer Korby, 36, of Perham, passed away Sept. 20, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, due to injuries from a motorcycle accident.
Eric was born Jan. 9, 1973, in Perham. His parents are Camilla "Kaye" (Magar) Korby and the late Carl Korby. Eric grew up in rural New York Mills. He was baptized in the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills and confirmed in the Stateline Apostolic Lutheran Church. Eric attended New York Mills High School and graduated with the class of 1991. He worked through his high school years with his father, Carl, in Korby Roofing. After graduation, Eric continued with construction and began Korby Construction and Exteriors. His son, Alec was born Sept. 30, 1998. Eric enjoyed fishing with Alec. He also enjoyed biking and skeet shooting and loved renovating his mother's home. He was an active member at the Apostolic Lutheran Church where he enjoyed Bible study and fellowship at church. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 25, at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills, with the Revs. Don Salo and Reino Maunu officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Janet Tumberg. The pallbearers were Dan Welter, Matthew Strotter, Brad Usgaard, Scott Tumberg, Phil Dykoff and Pete Gebert. The honorary pallbearers were all of Eric's nieces and nephews. Eric was laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills. Arrangements are provided by Karvonen & Son Funeral Home in New York Mills. A memorial fund has been set up at the Farmers & Merchants State Bank in New York Mills for Eric's son, Alec Korby for an Educational IRA.
Survivors include his mom, Camilla "Kaye" Korby of New York Mills; his son, Alec Korby of Perham and Detroit Lakes; sisters, Gloria Korby of Ocala, Fla., Laurel Warren of Harrisonburg, Va., Carla Korby of Staples, and Jennifer Magar of Perham; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl; and his sisters, Linda Korby and Tamara Korby.
