Funeral services were held for Elizabeth "Betty" Johnson on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 10:00am, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills, Minnesota with Pastor Adam Osier and Pastor Kirk Douglas officiating. The pallbearers were Scott Knoepke, Aaron Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Mike Roberts and Brent Nagel. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Janell Brakel. Betty was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, New York Mills, Minnesota.

Elizabeth "Betty" Jean Roberts was born on May 14, 1925 at home in Bluffton Township, rural New York Mills, Minnesota. Her parents were the late Aaron and Dorothy (Burrell) Roberts. Betty grew up on the family farm and attended country school at District #175 in Homestead Township. She graduated from the New York Mills High School with the class of 1943. Betty continued her education at the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. On June 9, 1945 Betty was united in marriage with Everett Gust Johnson at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Davies, in Homestead Township. Betty and Everett made their home and farmed their entire life in Homestead Township. They took mission trips to the Holy Lands and to Brazil. Betty enjoyed flowers, gardening, knitting and sewing for Missions. She was a member of the Gideon Auxiliary. On January 28, 2014 Betty passed away peacefully at her home in Homestead Township, rural New York Mills at 88 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Preceding Betty in death were her parents; sisters: Dorothy and Phyllis; brothers: Bruce and Lory.

Betty is survived by her husband, Everett Johnson of New York Mills, her 2 daughters: Cynthia (Ken) Knoepke of Spring Lake Park; Miriam (Dan Knutson) Johnson of Minneapolis; 3 sons: Gary (Meg) Johnson of Lake Elmo; Stephen (Lynn) Johnson of New York Mills; Timothy (Alison Kirwin) Johnson of Inver Grove Heights; 6 grandchildren: Jennifer (Brent), Scott, Aaron (LeAnn), Andrew (Brittany), Kari (Mike) and Matthew (Jessica) 11 great-grandchildren: Levi, Leah, Hadley, Charlie, Nora, Ava, Oscar, Ruby, Isaac, Henry and Hunter; 2 sisters: Alice King of Roseburg, Oregon and Wilma Roberts of Brainerd; many other relatives and a host of friends.

Arrangements are with the Karvonen & Son Funeral Home of New York Mills, Minnesota.
