Elizabeth "Betty" Deadrick

The funeral service for Elizabeth "Betty" Deadrick of Perham, and formerly of Wadena, will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Wadena with Pastor Paul Anderson officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena. Visitation will resume at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 am until the time of service. Betty passed away at the age of 92, on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at the Perham Living Transitions in Perham, MN.

Elizabeth Mathilda (Frederick) Deadrick was born to Stuart and Minnie (Tiede) Frederick on July 21, 1921 in Hewitt, MN. She graduated from Hewitt High School and St. Cloud State University. Her first teaching position out of college was at a country school. Betty was united in marriage to Elvin LeRoy Deadrick on February 14, 1943, at the United Brethren Church in Hewitt. While Elvin was in the Army they lived in Maryland, where Betty taught nursery school. She returned to Hewitt when Elvin went overseas. Over the years they lived in Hewitt, Duluth, Grand Marais, Olivia, Wadena, and Perham. While living in Wadena she taught elementary school there and in Bluffton and will be remembered by many as a kind and devoted teacher. Betty was a member of Eastern Star, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, First Congregational United Church of Christ, and Hosanna Ministries Church. She filled her free time with reading, crafts, crocheting, and volunteering. She loved her family dearly and treasured their time together.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Elvin in 1990; parents Stuart and Minnie; and sister Myrna Satterlie.

She is survived by her son William "Bill" of San Tan, AZ; daughter Betty Lee (Daniel) Strang of Perham; grandchildren Jennifer (Derek) Whitehead, Jessica (Toby) Hastings, and Shaun Deadrick; great-grandchildren Grace, Ethan, and Lilly; along with a host of friends and grateful students.

Serving as pallbearers will be Derek Whitehead, Toby Hastings, Robert Satterlie, Elaine Walk, and John & Joyce Haverland.

Interment will be next to her husband in Wadena Cemetery.
