Eleanor Elizabeth Kallevig, 90, of Wadena, passed away Oct. 28, 2009, at Tri-County Hospital, from complications following an aortic dissection.
Born Nov. 28, 1918, in Volga, S.D. to George and Winifred Cotton, Eleanor had four siblings, Edith, Leslie Eugene, Esther and Elaine.
As a young girl, Eleanor came to trust Christ in a personal way. Her decision to live for the Lord and her love of words brought her to Wheaton College, where she earned a BA in English with a minor in Latin and an MA in Christian education.
She was united in marriage to the Rev. Richard (Dick) Miller on Nov. 28, 1946, and they served three churches in Maryland. Dick died shortly before their second anniversary.
United in marriage to the Rev. Lloyd Kallevig on July 10, 1954, Eleanor and Lloyd served together in nine churches in and around Mora, Hendricks, Brooten, and Austin, Minn., and Pasadena, Calif. She was a teacher, a parish secretary, a Sunday school teacher, and was active in many Bible studies. In Hendricks she started a Pioneer Girls Club.
Eleanor was never far from a Bible, a dictionary, and a good piece of chocolate. Her trademark was her smile, through which she shared the love and joy of knowing Christ.
