Eight new teachers were introduced Monday night at the August meeting of the District 2155 school board.
Making the introductions was Wadena-Deer Creek's new superintendent, Lee Westrum, who joined the district staff in July. Westrum replaced Virginia Dahlstrom, who retired following the 2012-2013 school year.
New teachers for the 2013-2014 school year, which begins Sept. 3, are Howie Kangas (elementary physical education), Tracy Fruechte (first grade), Katy Westrom (elementary music), Alyssa Morlock (kindergarten), Kristi Soule (elementary special education), Fay Pary (elementary special education, Dawn Hamelau (secondary special education) and Sheila Winkels (Family and Consumer Science).
The board accepted the resignations of Kari Hanson (special education) and Doug Haas (elementary physical education). WDC Elementary Principal Louis Rutten told the board he hoped to have a replacement for Haas by the time school begins.
Mark Reynolds was hired to be the new Wadena-Deer Creek track and field coach. Reynolds is a secondary special education instructor in the WDC system.
The board also approved the hiring of Josh Hendrickx as a secondary paraprofessional and Carolyn Skillings as an elementary paraprofessional.
The board also gave Westrum direction in the installation of an irrigation system for the WDC middle/high school grounds. Westrum told the board he wanted to get quotes on the project this fall so work could begin next spring.
