Ehrmantraut a sausage champ
Tyler Ehrmantraut is a champ when it comes to making sausage.
The Wadena man earned the Reserve Grand Champion plaque from the Minnesota Association of Meat Processors in a judging March 27-28 in St. Cloud.
Ehrmantraut works in the meat department at The Grocery Store by Mason Brothers in Wadena alongside his father, Ed. His day, like that of many meat processors, starts at 2 a.m.
Ehrmantraut started making sausage five years ago in his home. Together with a friend he processed sausage with a hand crank grinder. He now operates with the latest processing equipment at The Grocery Store and turns out a batch of smoked sausage in five hours.
"I like the challenge of making it and the pleasure of making a good product," Ehrmantraut said.
People who know sausage will tell you that you can make it out of practically any meat. In addition to beef, Ehrmantraut has made sausage from goose, duck, venison, pork, elk and even pheasant.
Meat processing is only one of Ehrmantraut's jobs. He also drives truck for Mason Brothers and has TC Backyard Barb-B-Q along with his son, Colter.
