Eagles top Wolverines in Subway Classic title game
Six New York Mills players collected two hits apiece Wednesday as the Eagles defeated Wadena-Deer Creek 8-5 for the Subway Classic championship.
EmaLeigh and Mckenna Roberts, Lydia Irons, Brooklyn Frost, Brittany Lee and Amy Nebosis all collected two safeties in the 28-hit slugfest.
Samantha Manselle led the Wolverines with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate that included one RBI. Caitlin Volkmann, Sam Killian and Brooke Umland all contributed two hits.
Autumn Roberts out-dueled Caitlin Volkmann for the pitching win.
The Wolverines reached the finals by winning their opener with Mahnomen/Waubun 14-0 and blanking Fosston 11-0 in the second round.
Volkmann fired a one-hitter in the victory over Mahonmen/Waubun. The WDC righty fanned three and did not allow a walk in her five innings of work.
Michaela Lehmkuhl homered, went 4-for-4 at the plate, drove in three runs and scored one for the Wolverines. Morgan Ziese, Sam Killian, Katelyn Peters, Brooke Umland, Ashley Tuttle and Volkmann combined for eight hits, eight RBIs and 10 runs.
Victoria Witthuhn fired a three-hitter and Lehmkuhl went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs and three RBIs as the Wolverines crushed Fosston.
Manselle, Killian and Ziese combined for six hits, five RBIs and three runs in the win.

The Wolverines cashed in on 10 Perham errors Tuesday in a doubleheader sweep of the Yellowjackets.
Michaela Lehmkuhl and Brooke Umland led WDC at the plate in Game 1 combining for five hits, four RBIs and four runs.
Caitlin Volkmann fanned six in chalking up the win.
Sam Killian was 4-for-5 with three doubles, five RBIs and two runs in Game 2.
Morgan Zeise and Michaela Lehmkuhl both scored three times.
Victoria Witthuhn scattered six Perham hits for the pitching win.
Minnewaska 10, WDC 5
The Lakers used a 17-hit attack to dismantle the Wolverines Monday in Wadena.
Julieann Helander and Kacia Kollman combined for six hits, seven RBIs and three runs for Minnewaska. Kollman and Shanae Suchy both homered in the win.
The Wolverines were stopped cold for the first five innings.
Sam Killian went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the loss. Caitlin Volkmann was 2-for-3 and scored twice.

Katelyn Peters’ sacrifice and singles by Victoria Witthuhn and Lacena Brown lifted WDC over Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Saturday in an eight-inning game.
The Raiders led 4-1 after three innings but Craig Klawitter’s team fought back and tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Michaela Lehmkuhl was 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Caitlin Volkmann fanned seven and walked two in notching the pitching win. Teresa Moenkedick walked five and fanned five in taking the loss.
Elyssa Kern and Kirsten Korfe combined for five of BHV’s nine hits.

Allie Paul was Breck’s top hitter with two hits and two RBIs.
