Dragons overcome Wolverines 7-5
Seven different Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato skaters iced goals Friday night as the Dragons held off a determined Wadena-Deer Creek comeback for a 7-5 victory.
The Dragons put 52 shots on goal against WDC's Wesley Janson. The Wolverines countered with 20 shots on goal against Braeden Wahl.
The Dragons spoiled a good scoring night by WDC's Mike Behl who picked up his first hat trick of the year.
After the Dragons grabbed a 3-0 first period lead against WDC on goals by Isak Haataja, Jared Pedersen and Troy Ryynanen, Behl took a feed from Dylan Phillips to put WDC on the board at the 13:20 mark.
The second period saw the two clubs combine to put seven goals on the board.
David Raisanen's power play goal at 3:10 of the second period rebuilt a three-goal lead which Thomas Brekke and Behl whittled down with back-to-back goals. Brekke scored at the 5:30 mark with assists from Elias Lehti and Behl. Behl then found the net with a power play shot at the 8:26 mark.
Down 4-3, the Wolverines allowed Ethan Niemala into the net with a power play shot at the 10:14 mark. Mitchell Janson came up with a goal on a feed from Austin Sutherland at 16:24. The Dragons tried to pull away against as Killna Keaveny scored but Sutherland set up Behl's third goal to cap the second period scoring.
Defense took over in the third period and Ben Haugo's late goal at the 14:14 mark gave the Dragons an insurance goal.
The loss dropped the Wolverines to 2-2.
