Douglas Owen West, 65, of Wadena, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
He was born Jan. 15, 1944, at the Wadena Hospital to Francis and Hazel (Stephens) West. After leaving Menahga, he lived in Cambridge, Minn., Brainerd, Minn., and Little Falls, Minn., before finally moving to Wadena in 1982 to the Trailwood Group Home. He lived there until passing away.
He was always very interested in sports. He enjoyed the times when he was able to compete in the state Special Olympics. He also made sure you knew how good of a bowler he was. He was always very excited about his summer trips to Camp Friendship with his friends.
He was always proud of his job at the Wadena County Recycling Center, and of course all of the different jobs he did with his friends and staff from the Sebeka Developmental Achievement Center.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 26, at the First English Lutheran Church in Menahga with the Rev. Steven A. Bruer officiating. Casketbearers were Russell West, Tom West, Steve West and Dave Lusti. Interment will be made in the Menahga City Cemetery. Survivors include his sisters: Colleen Lage of Stillwater, Okla., and Sharleen Lindquist of Menahga; brothers, Russell (Linda) West of Ennis, Mont., Tom West of Menahga and Stephen (Char) West of Menahga; sister-in-law, Linda West of Menahga; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Vicki West; brother, Sandy West; and two brothers-in-law, Gerald Lage and Norm Lindquist.
