Dorothy Mae (Oakland) Anderson, 86, of Sebeka, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga.
She was born on May 13, 1923, in Bisbee, N.D., the fourth of eight children born to Theodore and Mabel (Nelson) Oakland. When she was a small child, the family moved to a farm west of Menahga, where she attended country school and graduated from Menahga High School in 1942. She married Clinton Anderson of Sebeka on Sept. 27, 1942. Clinton (also known as Buster) died in July 2007, just short of their 65th wedding anniversary. In their early married years they farmed north east of Nimrod. She was a busy homemaker, raising her family, milking cows, gardening and baking -- there was always fresh homemade bread on the table. In 1954, they left the farm and moved to Sebeka. She was a kind, devoted, loving mother, who knew and taught her children right from wrong. She was a peace-maker and a friend to all who knew her. She was a member of the Verndale chapter of Eastern Star, and a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed collecting dolls, painting pictures, league bowling, traveling and spending time with her family.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 17, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Sebeka with the Rev. Ben Carlsen officiating. Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters Brook Pulju, Tamara Evans, Stacy Schoon, Hollie Macy, Heidi Hutchison, Heather Anderson, La Coe Inwards, Shanda Ament, Jada Anderson, Ashlee Anderson and Karlee Anderson-Magnan, Active casketbearers were here grandsons, Rock Yliniemi, Steve Oehlenschlager Jr., Brian Hotakainen, Chad Oehlenschlager, Jason Ament and Christopher Anderson.
