• Approximately 90 area residents lighted the Hospice Tree at Tri-County Hospital on Tuesday, Nov. 17. A total of 304 bulbs were lit in remembrance, honor and thanks of loved ones who have gone before us.

"This truly is an inspirational evening that is designed to ease the soul and touch the heart," explained Andrea Craig, TCH home care/hospice manager. "The holidays can be a very difficult time for those grieving the loss of a loved one and this program is all about providing support and hope to the bereaved."

All proceeds benefit the TCH Hospice program, which provides care for individuals with a terminal illness. Hospice relies on continued support and assistance through donations, fundraising and volunteer hours. Lights can still be purchased through Dec. 31. To purchase a light, call the TCH Hospice office at (218) 631-7480.

• Just in time for Thanksgiving, Lakewood Health System employees collected non-perishable food items to donate to local foods shelves in the service area. A total of 700 pounds of food was donated, along with $220 in cash. During the weeks of Nov. 2 and 9, employees brought food items by-the-bag to work.

"Our mission focuses on meeting the needs of our communities," said Tim Rice, Lakewood Health System president. "And the response by Lakewood employees to meet those needs reflects the passion they have to make a difference."

Lakewood holds two food shelf drives a year. The next drive will take place just before National Food Drive Month in March.
