Disoriented driver charged with DWI
A Hewitt man faces two DWI-related charges after being found disoriented in a car early in the morning.
Authorities were called by a homeowner who reported that a car was parked in his yard next to his house on U.S. Highway 71 that he didn't recognize. When police arrived, they attempted to wake the man inside the car, who was sleeping. According to court documents, on the third attempt, Joseph Donald Shoeberl, 32, woke up and answered them.
After smelling alcohol on Shoeberl, the officer asked him where he was, and Shoeberl responded, "in southern Minnesota," court documents indicated. He was actually in Wadena County.
When officers asked Shoeberl to produce his driver's license, he handed authorities a credit card, court document said.
Shoeberl allegedly registered a .16 blood alcohol content, twice the legal limit, when a test was administered at 7:17 a.m., court records said.
