Delores Ardell (Haugen) Saari, 79, of Henning, passed away peacefully Aug. 19, 2009, at her home at Willow Creek Senior Community.

She was born June 2, 1930, at home in Leaf Lake Township, rural Henning, to Carl and Julia M. (Juvrud) Haugen. She graduated from the Henning High School with class of 1948. On July 24, 1949, she married Jacob "Jack" Milton Saari at United Lutheran Church in Henning. Together they made their home and farmed on the Saari Family Farm in Leaf Lake Township. For 35 years, she was employed as a news correspondent for Leaf Lake Township. She worked with the newspapers in Henning, Wadena and New York Mills. She and Jack mowed lawn for many years for Leaf Lake Finnish, Norderhaug, Trinity, Grace Lutheran and Prairie cemeteries. She enjoyed making lefse, trapping gophers and playing cards. She was an avid reader and the coffee was always on at her home, served with fresh baked goods. She had a great sense of humor that came along everyday with a joke for the day. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Ottertail, where she had a perfect attendance with her Bible study group.
