Delmer Alvin Bartels, 78, of Henning, died on Monday, June 29, 2009, at the Long Prairie Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Clitherall on Feb. 8, 1931, the son of Arnold and Leona (Pieper) Bartels. He grew up in Leaf Mountain Township and attended school there. He then farmed with his father. He entered the Army on July 24, 1953, and was discharged on June 9, 1955. He returned to Minnesota and on July 14, 1956, was married to Kareen (Kay) Sarvela at St. Paul's Church in Henning. They made their home in the Henning area where he farmed and worked for Volden Construction. He also drove the milk truck for the Vining Co-op Creamery. Kay died on May 16, 2008.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 3, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Henning with the Rev. Randy Maland officiating. Interment is in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Henning. The Belmont Funeral Home in Henning was in charge of arrangements (www.belmontfuneral.net).
Survivors include his children, Diane (Peter) Hanebuth, Long Prairie, Todd (Patricia) Bartels, Bemidji, Stacy (Chris) Heinrichs, Worthington, and Kevin (Julie) Bartels, of Fergus Falls; a sister, Marlys Eckhoff, Henning; brothers, Duane (Joanne) Bartels, Clarissa, Arvid (Phyllis) Bartels, Alexandria, Donald (Alice) Bartels, Melrose, Ronald (Patricia) Bartels, Wadena, and Alden (Phyllis) Bartels, Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; an infant son, Dean; and a daughter, Theone.
