Defense turns tables for Wolverines in playoff victory over Pequot Lakes

Craig Klawitter's fifth-seeded Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines came up with all of their runs in the last three innings Tuesday to top fourth-seeded Pequot Lakes 5-2 in Sub-Section 8AA softball action.

Klawitter credited both teams with excellent defensive work and lauded his own club for timely hits in the final three frames.

Avery Jackson led the Wolverines at the plate as she went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Caitlin Volkmann sacrificed twice, collected a solo hit and drove in a run.

Amanda Perkins walked just one and scattered six hits to earn the pitching win over Katie White.

White doubled twice for the Patriots and Megan Hogan tripled.

The Wolverines improved to 10-7 and earned a shot at No. 1-ranked Staples-Motley in second round play at Frazee.
