Deer Creek exploring new website

The city of Deer Creek is looking into a new website, city clerk Carol Pearson said in a summary of Monday's council meeting.

Mitch Koep, representative of A Better Wireless, was present at the regular city council meeting Monday, March 26.

"We got some suggestions on where to start on that," Pearson said.

A couple of municipal job positions are open.

The council accepted the resignation of outdoor maintenance worker Joe Brown, and the city will be looking for a new maintenance worker.

The city is also planning to hire a part-time employee to help with custodial work at the community center.

New York Mills Police Chief Jim Van Schaick presented the second monthly report on activity in Deer Creek.

The Baseball Restoration Project is continuing, and the council discussed water and sewer to the baseball field.

A non-intoxicating license for the year for the Deer Creek Lions at the community center was approved. This is the license for setups and 3.2 beverages.

The council approved paying $1,500 for Deer Trails Day, which will be held July 28 this year.

Also, $150 will be donated to the Garden Club.

"They do the flowers around the community center and then in the Lions Park," Pearson said. "Mary Lee [Weaver] works on Gracie's Corner ... we're donating 100 dollars to her for fixing that and for planting in there."

The city will send notifications in its newsletter for properties that need to be cleaned up.

Pearson said Tim Weller, water and sewer operator, will meet with someone from the Minnesota Rural Water Association in regards to cleaning water lines.

The council received an update from the Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) for fixing a couple of houses.

The council adopted a resolution for redistricting. The city's precinct boundaries remain the same.

The council approved allowing Bob Wierima to put a water hydrant on his property across the street to water the lawn.

Deer Creek city-wide garage sales will be held May 4-5.
