Dale D. Erickson

The funeral service for Dale D. Erickson of Wadena will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 27, 2014, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wadena, with Pastor Nate Loer officiating. Friends may call on Sunday from 4:00-8:00p.m. at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena. Visitation will resume on Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. With his wife, Sylvia, and his loving family by his side, Dale passed away at the age of 66, on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at his home in Wadena.

Dale was born on August 1, 1947, in Mora, Minnesota, to Delmer and Eleanor Erickson. He grew up in Cambridge, Minnesota and graduated high school from Cambridge High School in 1965. Dale attended college at St. Cloud State University and completed his Bachelor's Degree in Education in the spring of 1969. Its then he began his career of teaching at Bertha-Hewitt High School. Just two years into his teaching career Dale was drafted into the United States Army. While serving his country, he was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma, where he met the love of his life, Sylvia.

Dale and Sylvia were married on July 28, 1973 in Lawton, Oklahoma and moved to Bertha, Minnesota where Dale returned to teaching and coaching. During those years he enjoyed playing amateur baseball, and hunting and fishing with his family. Eventually Dale and Sylvia moved to Wadena, Minnesota, where they raised their two children, Jeremy and Lisa. Over the next 20 years Dale devotedly followed his children throughout their athletic careers.

In 2004, Dale retired from his 35 year teaching career at Bertha-Hewitt High School. He discovered his love for golf and spent his retirement days with friends on the golf course. In most recent years, he relished spending time with his grandchildren and family at their lake cabin on Rush Lake.

Dale is survived by his wife Sylvia, son Jeremy (Donnielle) Erickson of Fargo, ND, daughter Lisa (JJ) Truax of Wahpeton, ND, four grandchildren, Eleanor, Lincoln, Ty and Taylor, sister Diane (Frank) Presseller of Ham Lake, MN, brothers Darwin (Vickie) Erickson of St. Joseph, MN, and Duane (Gayle) Erickson of Lino Lakes, MN, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Military honors will be provided by the Elmer Goche Post 3922, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Wadena, MN.

Arrangements are with the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena. (
